Today I Am Thankful

Saturday, November 18, 2017

That moment you realize Thanksgiving is next week and you get to stuff your face with food and not feel bad... but then you also realize IT IS ALREADY THANKSGIVING?!?! I know we all say it every year but dang this year for sure went by fast. How did that even happen? The crazy thing is my one year anniversary for my blog is also coming up, unbelievable!

This time of year I always get stressed out about all the goals and resolutions I didn't achieve. I had a year to do these things, what is my excuse? 12 months to make myself change into what I wanted to be back in January. What will the Lord think of me? Will He see me as a failure and have no faith in me? Anyone else think this way? That we are a failure because we don't achieve our goals?

Proverbs 24:16 says, "The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again." We all strive for perfection. I mean c'mon being perfect sounds pretty swell to me. Living a life of no flaws and not disappointing anyone. Unfortunately that isn't realistic and ya know what, that is okay. No one is perfect, some may look perfect on the outside but everyone has their quirks, and guess what: God made us the way he wanted us to be.

We all fall and we all get back up. "The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand" (Psalms 37:23-24). Jesus loves us through thick and through thin. He loves us so much that when we fall, His hand is out there ready to pick us up. That is the most incredible thing to me. God's hand is always out for us, He never once pulls away. It is up to us to take His hand and allow Him to guide us.

Rather than beat ourself up over what we didn't do, let's applaud ourselves and be thankful for what we did accomplish. It is almost Thanksgiving after all!

Here is a list of three things I am thankful for:
  1.  My daily devotions book!! Finding that extra time in the morning to talk to Jesus and pray is the absolute best way to start my day. If any of you feel stressed on a day to day basis I highly recommend waking up a smidge earlier (and yes this may mean going to bed earlier!) and just reading your bible and soaking in as much Jesus as you can to get through the day.
  2.  My friends. Seriously my friends are the best thing ever and I really don't think I could get through life with out them. I know a majority of them are the ones who read this so, hey! I love you!!
  3. Chocolate. Yes. Chocolate. When in doubt, chocolate will always be there for you!
What are you thankful for? Also what are you most excited to eat on Thanksgiving??
Let me know in the comments! Also enjoy a couple photos from when I went to the pumpkin patch the other week!

  1. proud to be your friend. wow. I love you

  2. always thankful for you!

  3. Hi Rachel!

I love your blog, you take beautiful photos! Do you just use your phone, or do you prefer a camera? What you said about spending time with Jesus in the morning is so important! It can be really hard to make time in the mornings to do this, so sometimes when I didn't quite roll out of bed early enough, I like to use my drive to work to spend time with Jesus. Turn on some soft worship music and pray or just listen - it's an excellent start to the day.
